Advantages and Disadvantages of Working Abroad

If you really want to improve your career, then you need to come out of your comfort zone, which is never enjoyable and requires a lot of willpower. Leaving behind your friends, your family, your relatives and your living environment seems impossible. But just think of all that you will discover. You will be uncovered not only to new opportunities but also to a new countryside, languages, cultures and traditions that are unknown to you, and will make unforgettable encounters. It will also be a chance to get out of your daily routine and will be a source of new experience for you. Once you have taken your first steps in the job market and have understood the codes of your new work environment, nothing will be the same. You will soon become familiar with your new colleagues and find a comfort zone too which is necessary for your fulfilment. Apart of all these good reasons that often lead the best elements to choose an experience abroad, it is a trivial choice which is not without drawbacks. However, here are some advantages and some disadvantages of working abroad below:

Advantages of Working Abroad

First of all, you will become more independent. It will be wonderful for you to be an empowered person, when you have to manage your life alone without being able to rely on someone. By living abroad, you will probably meet new people, find out new habits and customs and schools of thought as different as the others. Therefore, it will help you to learn patience and tolerance. This discovery of new customs and social norms will make you able to accept and appreciate cultural differences.

Then you will make new friends and soon they become like your family. It will also be an occasion for you to learn one or more foreign languages. After that, you will find out how a foreign market works, or how to perform multiple tasks in different time zones and follow sometimes strange customs. Adding international work experiences to your CV is really impressive for employers. Unfamiliar environments are difficult to live, therefore it will allow you to grow and acquire new strengths. Living abroad can certainly help you to gain skills. Hence, you will learn more about what you want to accomplish in your career.

Disadvantages of Working Abroad

It is never easy to leave everything to go abroad. In some cases, going abroad may not be a simple matter, especially in view of difficulties in finding bridges, visa applications, work permits, residence permits and look for accommodations, cover social and medical insurances. Costs of living as compared to the country of origin sometime is more expensive, and people leave with the inflexible idea that they can generate huge income without thinking about the cost of living rent, transport, consumption etc.

In some cases, bad surprises and disappointments candidates may face in searching of jobs that are not necessarily related to their skills and even before finding a job that suits them. Despite that troubles integrate in the host country in form of cultural shock, racism, loneliness, homesickness form the country, may cause obstacles that can affect the productivity of the decision-making and later the smooth running of your stay abroad.
