SATURDAY: July 5th
Overground Railroad rally
at the Regional Transportation Center.
Bring a flag, help distribute "Know Your Rights" literature. Let's declare independence from the Administration's family-hostile immigration policies.
Border Patrol and ICE [1] agents have established a regular presence on buses, trains and at the Regional Transportation Center and stations in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo.
The Detainment Task Force has embarked on a campaign to increase awareness, organize resistance and demand an end to these activities. Join us on July 5th as we continue our presence at the RTC to demand Amtrak and Greyhound stop collaborating, and Border Patrol/ICE to get off the bus!
For all who live outside of Central and Western New York:
Get the word out that those who use Greyhound or Amtrak buses or trains headed to and through Syracuse can expect to be confronted by uniformed Border Patrol Agents, especially if they "look Latino, African, Haitian, Filipino, Middle Eastern, Indian" (in other words, nonwhite). If the person cannot prove American citizenship or cannot come up with the proper papers (unexpired visa, green card, etc.), they stand a very high risk of being arrested, taken to jail, and then deported... even if they are married to a U.S. citizen, or have U.S.-citizen children.
Border Patrol is very aggressive at the Amtrak and Greyhound Stations in Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo. They arrest people (from what we have observed) every day, every night, including weekends . There is no safe time! If you must travel, consider using private transportation and travel in the evening to reduce risk. Many arrests have also taken place on the New York State Thruway. Make informed choices about your route.
