Come to the Spring Maine EF! Rendezvous May 23-26
The Maine-iacs are hosting a Northeast Regional Rendezvous and we want you there!
Friday May 23- Monday May 26
In the Great Maine North Woods near Moosehead Lake
Right now in northern Maine, the worlds largest land owner is trying to suck up the largest wilderness east of Mississippi and spit it out as condos and golf courses. In other words, its time to get our shit together, build our skills and grow our resistance, to this plan. Come to Moosehead, for the Canada Lynx, for the wolves, for the Pink Lady Slippers, for the wetlands, for the wild forests and streams and lakes and to be inspired by these threatened places. And come to learn skills and build connections to defend them. Arrive Friday night and set up camp in time for an open-mic-less night. There will be a Night to Howl on Saturday evening. Bring musical instruments and your favorite circus tricks.
We’ll spend three days in hands-on direct action trainings including: climb trainings ranging from beginning to advanced, blockades training, how to use the media schmucks, facilitation (or making it easy), staying safe in the streets and the woods, info about Plum Creek’s plans for the North Woods, Earth First! philosophy, the role of forest defense in the climate change movement, legal training, local ecology, and how to be sneaky in the woods. Plan to stick around 'til Tuesday to apply your new skills.
Come prepared to campout, it could be chilly and wet, remember these are the NORTH Woods. May is black fly season, and they're known to carry people out of their tents!!! Light colored clothing (allegedly) helps. Swimming is available for the extra hardy. Bring something to contribute to a common kitchen, and a small cash donation. We know you all have great ideas for workshops but the agenda is jam-packed and facilitators are booked so just trust us, it’ll be a great weekend.
Get in touch for directions and more info maineef (at) yahoo.com
Directions will also be posted on www.maine.indymedia.org [1] two weeks before the Rendezvous. Kids are totally welcome, please get in touch ahead of time if you would like help with childcare. Suggested donation $20...no one turned away for lack of funds.
We'll see ya there.
